Forest Benefits

Total production of forest goods in 2003 was 3,197 billion won (approx. US$3,172 million), about 0.49% of the GDP. Aside from this, forests provide many environmental benefits, preventing floods and landslides, providing outdoor recreation and conserving biological diversity. They act as carbon sink and contribute to reduction of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere through photosynthesis. It is anticipated that the public benefit functions of the forests will become more and more significant.
