Korea-Mekong Forest Cooperation Center


The Korea-Mekong Forest Cooperation Center has been launched in Phnom Pehn, Cambodia with the view of expanding the cooperation between Korea and Mekong basin countries (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar & Viet Nam), creating a stable environment for overseas forest investment and vitalizing forest investment from the private sector.

The MOU on the establishment and operation of the Korea-Mekong Forest Cooperation Center was singed in June 2016 between KFS and the Forestry Administration of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The idea had been conceived in 2012 and since then, a feasibility study was carried out in 2015 and a basic plan was developed in 2016. The opening ceremony of the Center stationed in the Institute of Forest and Wildlife Research and Development of the Cambodian Forestry Administration was officially held in Phnom Penh, October 2016. To commence the operation, the employment contract of Korean Director of the Center was also concluded. Now Cambodian coordinator and staff employed locally assists Korean Director and additionally a project manager from Korea will be dispatched as well to facilitate the operation of the Center.

Further to its aims, the Center will also play a role in bridging the cooperation with Mekong basin countries on forest planation investment, providing support for Korean forest investment companies and establishing a cooperative network by operating a forest policy council.
