In 2016, 414 participants had a chance to learn from the courses whose subjects varies from forest management to biodiversity conservation and capacity building. Each course was provided to the stakeholders in the field of forestry as a means to meet their needs and expand relevant knowledge and skills. Courses are normally comprised of lecture, field trip and group discussion and the duration is between one week and two weeks.

2016 Forestry Education & Training Courses

Training Course for Agro-forestry Management
  • Participants: 11 (Latin America and the Caribbean)
  • Goal: Enhancing capabilities by transferring and sharing Agro-forestry Management policies and technologies in order to prevent abnormal climate phenomenon caused by logging and forest land conversion
Training Course for REDD+ capacity building in the first half of 2016
  • Participants: 9 forestry officials (Latin America and the Caribbean)
  • Goal: Sharing REDD+ policies of Korea and introducing reforestation techniques as well as forest management technologies thereby navigating bilateral cooperative projects, which based on the mutual consensus
Training Course for REDD+ capacity building in the second half of 2016
  • Participants: 14 forestry officials (Central Asia and other partnering countries)
  • Goal: Sharing REDD+ policies of Korea and introducing reforestation techniques as well as forest management technologies thereby navigating bilateral cooperative projects, which based on the mutual consensus
Korea-Mongolia Greenbelt Project
  • Participants: 12 Mongolian forestry officials and project stakeholders
  • Goal: Capacity building of Mongolian forestry officials and relevant staff of Korea- Mongolia Greenbelt Project thereby increasing the achievements of target projects such as prevention of desertification
Training Course for Capacity Building on Renewable Energy
  • Participants: 8 forestry officials (African countries)
  • Goal: Enhancing capacity of forestry officials from developing countries based on renewable energy production technologies using timber resources, strengthening forestry cooperation between the ROK and four African countries
Training Course to facilitate Wood Biomass Utilization
  • Participants: 10 forestry officials & project stakeholders (Indonesia, Fiji, Cambodia)
  • Goal: Strengthening network and laying the ground work for business facilitation
Training Course for Capacity Building of Afforestation and Forest Recreation
  • Participants: 17 (Africa, ASEAN)
  • Goal: Learning from the development, management and utilization of forest recreational resources of the ROK, thereby enhancing capacity of forestry officials of developing countries and bilateral cooperation
Training Course for Enhanced Capabilities for Forest Recreation & Ecotourism in Indonesia (1)
  • Participants: 51 local people and forestry officials (Indonesia)
  • Goal: Enhancing basic capacity for the operation of forest recreation & ecotourism, Raising awareness to facilitate forest recreation & ecotourism
Training Course for Enhanced Capabilities for Forest Recreation & Ecotourism in Indonesia (2)
  • Participants: 14 local people and forestry officials (Indonesia)
  • Goal: Learning from forest recreation programs of the ROK and recognizing the role of local community and government to enhance capabilities of local autonomous body
Training Course for Forest Restoration
  • Participants: 10 forestry officials (African countries)
  • Goal: sharing and transferring the ROK’s restoration experience and advanced restoration techniques to prevent deforestation in African region, thereby strengthening forestry cooperation
Training Course for Sustainable Forest Management and Policies
  • Participants: 20 forestry officials (9ASEAN countries)
  • Goal: Sharing experience regarding timber legality verification system and local participation, and enhancing cooperation for sustainable forest management in ASEAN

Leadership Course for Forest Fire Management for 21st Century
  • Participants: 11 ASEAN forestry officials and 30 fire fighters of the Royal Forest Department
  • Goal: Sharing forest fire management policies of ASEAN countries and establishing countermeasures by analyzing patterns of forest fires caused by climate change and current status
Leadership Course for Sustainable Forest Management
  • Participants: 20 forestry officials responsible for AFoCo projects
  • Goal: Sharing current progress of the AFoCo projects and overseas projects, and enhancing capabilities of project managers for forest management with local participation
Course for Sharing Forest Restoration Experience in Asian Region
  • Participants: 18 forestry officials of ASEAN countries
  • Goal: Sharing forest restoration experience of the ROK and Asian countries and transferring technologies for sustainable forest management, thereby enhancing forestry cooperation in the region
Leadership Course for REDD+ and Forest Governance
  • Participants: 15 forestry officials of ASEAN countries
  • Goal: Sharing REDD+ experience and lessons learned in Asian region and strengthening forest governance to establish effective REDD+ policies and project implementation
Short-term Training Course for Forest Biodiversity in Central Asia
  • Participants: 12 forestry officials and experts (Central Asian countries)
  • Goal: Capacity building of local staff by giving instructions about biodiversity management technologies, and improving conservation and management status in order to forestry cooperation between the ROK and Central Asia
Education and Training Course for staff of Perum Perhutani (Indonesia)
  • Participants: 84 staff of Perum Perhutani
  • Goal: Training on the use of GPS device and equipment used for seedlings’ management, and educating on the operation system of the site
