The 5th Korea-Myanmar Forestry Cooperative Committee was held in Daejeon on November 21 2008.


The delegations gave presentations on current forest policies including international cooperation, harvesting and capacity building of Myanmar Timber Enterprise (MTE) to provide an understanding of the key issues in each country. The Myanmar delegation also presented rehabilitation efforts in Cyclone Nargis affected areas. Those presentations encouraged discussions from delegates on the existing or emerging forest issues.

Discussion was held on topics of mutual interest including accomplishments from the Fourth session, possible opportunities in forest plantation and support for timber industry, the Project of the Greening of the Dry Zone of Central Myanmar, and other related projects.


The 6th Korea-Myanmar Forestry Cooperative Committee is to be held in Myanmar in 2010.


It was a significant opportunity to confirm the willingness to establish a firm partnership for current and future cooperation between the two countries.
