El Salvador Delegation Visits the Forest Disaster Control Center at KFS
On May 29, the Korea Forest Service (KFS), led by Minister LIM Sang-seop, welcomed a delegation of El Salvador government officials to the Government Complex in Daejeon to share Korea’s forest disaster management technologies.
The El Salvador delegation was invited as part of the Study Mission on Forest Fire Prevention and Management of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Korea’s forest disaster management technology and system are shared through the Forest Training Institute.
The Forest Disaster Control Center at KFS introduced its Forest Fire Situation Control System, Forest Fire Spread Prediction Program, and actual footage from Forest Fire Suppression Helicopters for forest disaster response, and demonstrated response strategies tailored to different forest fire scenarios.
The Forest Disaster Control Center functions as a control tower for forest-related disasters, operating 24/7 to monitor and swiftly respond to forest fires, landslides, and forest pests and diseases.
Since May 26, the El Salvador delegation have been visiting institutions related to forest disaster control, including the National Institute of Forest Science, the Forest Aviation Headquarters, and the East Coastal Forest Fire Center of Gangwon Province, to gain knowledge of Korea’s policies and technologies on site.
LEE Hyunju, Director of the International Cooperation Division at KFS, stated, “Korea and El Salvador have been collaborating closely since 2022 through bilateral forest cooperation on forest restoration and related efforts. By sharing Korea’s forest disaster management systems on forest fire and other forest-related disasters, we aim to jointly address global challenges such as climate change.”
