KFS Introduces Innovative Forest Disaster Management Solutions with Namibian Officials
On June 25, the Korea Forest Service (KFS), led by Minister NAM Sunghyun, welcomed a delegation of Namibian government officials to the Government Complex in Daejeon. The visit aimed to share advanced forest disaster management technologies, which is part of the follow-up measures from the 2024 Korea-Africa Summit.
The Namibian delegation visited KFS as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Partnership Program, facilitated by the United Nations Development Programme. This opportunity allows Namibia to learn from Korea's advanced forest disaster management technology and systems.
The KFS showcased its advanced system for forest fire and landslide control, demonstrating response strategies for various scenarios. The Forest Disaster Control Center at KFS monitors forest disasters 24/7, ensuring swift responses to fires, landslides, forest diseases, and pests.
Additionally, the Namibian delegation will visit various KFS-affiliated institutes, including the National Institute of Forest Science, the Korea National Arboretum, and the Forest Aviation Headquarters. These visits aim to provide insights into Korea’s forestry technologies for forest fire control, forest disease and pest prevention, and overall forest management.
Hyunju Lee, Director of the International Cooperation Division at KFS, remarked, "African countries, located on the opposite side of the globe, are our partners in jointly addressing international issues such as climate change. KFS is sharing not only its successful national reforestation experience but also advanced technologies like forest fire management."
