Eastern National Forest Office Self-develops Log Collector

Eastern National Forest Office announced that they have self-developed a crane that transfers the logged timber to the roadside. This could mean a lot of savings in production costs.

Mostly they have used imported cranes that were expensive and too bulky which were designed for foreign forests and there were some difficulties in using the equipment to its full extent in Korean forests with a lot of curves and steep slopes.

The newly developed crane called "Bucket Replaced Crane" was built by replacing the bucket of a small excavator with self developed collecting equipment. This new machine costs around 7 million won which is 28 times cheaper than the imported cranes.

Also the set up process is simple and it is easy to operate. It could also be used for small scale thinning that it is expected to contribute a lot to forest production.

For roundwood production of 1.5million m3 per year, Bucket Replaced Crane could save up to 9,070 million won compare to other machines.

Eastern National Forest Office had a demonstration of the new self-developed machine in Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwondo on November 30. Some 140 people attended this event.
