Gongju Invests 1,225million Wons in Chestnut

Gongju City announced that the city is going to invest 1,225million wons (approx. 1.1million USD) in cultivation of chestnut. Chestnuts of Gongju City id renowned for the quality nationwide.

The city said that 148million wons(approx. 135,000 USD) will cover the expenses for pruning activities on 288ha of old chestnut trees together with development of species. Beginning in April 61million wons(approx. 55,000 USD) will be invested in the construction of 51 km long chestnut operation road.

207million wons(approx. 188,000 USD) and 208million(approx. 189,000 USD) wons will be invested for soil improvement projects and oak mushroom cultivation facility respectively. The latter investment will support 23,712m2 of oak mushroom cultivation facility.

In addition, 309million wons(approx. 280,000 USD) for chestnut refrigeration facility(645m2), 56million wons(approx. 51,000 USD) for disease and pest control equipments (11 machineries), 76million wons(approx. 69,000 USD) establishment of environment-friendly chestnut cultivation area of 19ha, 152million wons(approx. 138,000 USD) for chestnut production equipment, and 8million wons(approx. 7,000 USD) for shipment of standard size chestnut will be allotted respectively.

Authorities revealed that the city decided to undertake extensive cultivation project to maintain the their product＇s good reputation and also to continue producing high quality chestnuts.
