- Mangrove Restoration Training in Korea-
Korea Forest Service invited some 20 Indonesian officials for a training program from April 30 to May 9, 2007. The training program aims to introduce Korea’s forestry and related technology as well as to enhance the capacity building of developing countries.

This training program is conducted as a part of Mangrove Rehabilitation Project. Korea Forest Service is implementing the Mangrove Rehabilitation Project in Aceh Province for 3 years from 2006-2008. The three key activities of the project include planting mangrove forest, construction of information center, and capacity building.

2 different programs were designed each for high-level officials and working level professionals. Some of the topics include soil analysis and silviculture, nursery, and other know-hows and theories on forest rehabilitation. The program includes industrial and cultural field trips to different location.

So far, about 200 professionals from 30 countries have come to Korea to learn about forest rehabilitation. More training programs are to follow as the Greenbelt Plantation Project will commence this year and more professionals from Myanmar, Vietnam etc are seeking to take the training course provided by KFS.

KFS said that Korea once has been a country receiving aid from other countries in the past. Now as Korea is able to share its technology and experience, KFS hope to let the developing countries to learn as much possible from its past experiences.
