Built by Nature(BbN)* has developed the Principles for Responsible Timber Construction in collaboration with participating governments of Forest & Climate Leaders’ Partnership (FCLP)**, industry stakeholders, and other relevant partners.
* Built by Nature (BbN) is a network focused on accelerating the use of sustainable mass timber and other bio-based materials in the built environment.
** The Forest & Climate Leaders’ Partnership (FCLP) is a focused effort of 36 governments, plus the European Union, working together to halt and reverse forest loss by 2030, while delivering sustainable development.
Through the conservation of forest ecosystems and the procurement of sustainably sourced timber, these principles aim to reduce carbon emissions across the entire life cycle of buildings and to advance a circular economy.
The Republic of Korea has officially expressed its support for the Principles, in line with its policy direction to promote the use of timber.
The Korea Forest Service will continue to strengthen comprehensive support to promote the high-value use of domestically produced timber.
『To advance the transition from ‘an era of trees’ to an ‘an era of timber,’ we will promote the high-value use of domestically produced timber, a vital carbon sink. We will provide full-scale support across the entire value chain?from production to consumption?by expanding domestic timber industry hubs, upgrading aging facilities, and promoting a culture of wood use.』
