Korea Forest Service(KFS) is holding jointly with a NGO named Forest for Life and Yuhan-kimberly Ltd., ’the Beautiful Forest Contest’ which will choose the best forest among well-known, beautiful and rich forests nationwide.



KFS is collecting publicly contestant forests from those who love forests throughout June 7. Those forests should be beautiful and further ecologically and environmentally healthy and will be evaluated through on-site examinations by the judges of the contest.



The contest consists of 5 categories : Village Forest, School Forest, Thousand-year-old Forest, Forest Path and Forest Ranger. Those who would like to apply for any category can download an application form at www.forest.or.kr and either email or mail the form and introduction and photos of a forest to the secretariat of Forest for Life.



The total prize money of 20,000$ and medals are set up for 26 forests in the 5 categories. The result of the contest will be revealed at the website of Forest for Life around in the middle of October.



Having started in 2000, the contest is taking place this year seventhly, whose main purpose is to introduce the priceless value of forests to the people, and preserve and improve beautiful and healthy forests.



There are 96 forests which have been well-preserved and developed through the contest so far. At the sixth contest last year, the gumgang pine forest near the Junkyoung tomb and Youngkyoung tomb forest in Samcheok, Gangwon province, won the best prize. (The picture above is of the forest)
