Signing of a Framework Arrangement in the Field of Forestry and a Memorandum of Understanding on Forest Fire Cooperation with the Ministry of Forestry of Indonesia
The Korea Forest Service, led by Minister PARK Eunsik, announced on the 1st that it has strengthened forest cooperation with the Republic of Indonesia by signing a Framework Arrangement (FA) concerning Cooperation on a Priority Program in the Field of Forestry and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Forest Fire Management and Post-Fire Restoration Cooperation with the Ministry of Forestry of Indonesia.
The arrangements, signed by PARK Eunsik, Minister of the Korea Forest Service, and Raja Juli Antoni, Minister of Forestry of Indonesia, include areas of cooperation such as sustainable management of forests and mangroves, forest disaster management including forest fire management, and development of the forest carbon market to address the climate crisis.
In addition, both sides agreed to expand the Forest Fire Management in Asia (FFMA) project through the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO), as well as to collaborate on monitoring forest fire-affected areas and forest restoration projects using the agricultural and forestry satellite, thereby jointly addressing various challenges in the forestry sector.
In particular, the Indonesian delegation was introduced to Korea’s advanced aerial forest fire suppression system, which enables rapid response to forest fires using helicopters and drones, and discussed avenues for future cooperation and development.
Minister PARK remarked, “Korea and Indonesia have been key partners in forest cooperation for over 40 years. As the climate crisis intensifies, we will further strengthen our cooperation with Indonesia to ensure sustainable forest management, including forest management and forest fire disaster response.”
