Korea Forest Service Holds Preparatory Meeting for the 55th IFSS in 2027

Joint Forest Cleanup Campaign with IFSA-KOREA Reaffirms Commitment to the Successful Hosting of the Symposium


The Korea Forest Service, led by Minister Park Eun-sik, announced on the 19th that it held a meeting with the International Forestry Students' Association-KOREA (IFSA-KOREA) in the Administration Hall at Kookmin University(KMU) to prepare for the 55th International Forestry Students' Symposium(IFSS) to be held in 2027.

IFSA is the world's largest student association for forestry students. Established in 2005, IFSA-KOREA has been leading youth exchanges in the forestry sector both in Korea and abroad for more than 20 years.

The 55th IFSS will be held at major institutions and locations across Korea for 16 days from August 15, 2027, with about 120 participants from 64 countries expected to attend.

The meeting was held to support the successful hosting of the symposium, which Korea will host again for the first time in 17 years since 2010. Participants shared preparation progress on key program plans and safety management measures. They also discussed how to reflect major issues of the forestry sector, including forest disasters, climate change, and biodiversity.

The Korea Forest Service also plans to work closely with IFSA-KOREA to further strengthen the symposium program so that it can serve as an opportunity to share Korea's forest policy and forest management experience with the international community.

Following the meeting, officials from the Korea Forest Service and IFSA-KOREA students conducted a forest cleanup campaign together in the forested area of KMU, reflecting on the importance of youth participation in forest conservation and international forestry cooperation.

Nam Song-hee, Director of International Forestry Cooperation at the Korea Forest Service, said, “The 2027 IFSS is a meaningful opportunity to present the excellence of Korea's forests and our vision for international forestry cooperation to forestry students around the world.” He added, “We will provide active support so that Korean students grow into global leaders.”
