Special Prevention Plan for Pine Wilt Disease
◈ Recently, Pine Wilt Disease, also known as Pine Aids", has been rapidly
spreading northward in Korea. As of 2004, the disease was detected in
38 administrative districts (city/gu/gun) and has been causing a lot of
damages to the pine trees.
◈
No known cure has been developed and once infected by the disease, the
pine tree tends to dry up and die. The disease is threatening pine trees in
Japan, Taiwan, China, and some Southeast Asian nations.
◈ Addressing the seriousness of the disease, Korea Forest Service has
established
Special Prevention Plan for Pine Wilt Disease and has
provided instructions to the local governments. However, to achieve successful
prevention of the disease, public awareness and coordination from other
administration is urgently needed.
