The 8th meeting of Korea-Myanmar Forestry Cooperative Committee
The eighth meeting of the Korea-Myanmar Forestry Cooperative Committee was held between the Korea Forest Service (KFS) and the Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry (MOECAF) of Myanmar in Daejeon, on 8 April 2014. The Korean delegation was headed by H.E. Dr. Shin Won Sop, Minister of the KFS and the Myanmar delegation by H.E. U Win Tun, Union Minister.
It was agreed at the 8th meeting of the Committee to collaborate on signing the MOU on forest plantation investment and climate change this October between KFS and MOECAF, and the MOU on joint research between the Korea National Arboretum and the Forest Research Institute of Myanmar. Further both sides agreed to make shared efforts in implementing a REDD+ pilot project, a capacity-building program for Myanmar forestry officers and extending the current AFoCo Agreement.
On the sidelines of the 8th meeting, the Myanmar delegation visited the Central Fire Control Center and H.E. U Win Tun was briefed over the comprehensive control system equipped with high-tech mobile facilities and satellites. They also were given an experience tour to the Forest Experience Hall which is open to the public with the purpose of promoting forest education and experience.
