Agreement on the 1st conference of the Inter-Korean Agricultural Cooperation Committee




The 1st conference of the Inter-Korean Agricultural Cooperation Committee was held in Kaesung from August 18, 2005 through August 19.

The North and South(hereinafter referred to as the "two parties") agreed on the followings for implementation of stable and sustainable agricultural cooperation :




1. The two parties, in order to expand their agricultural cooperation project to a higher level, shall designate cooperative farms in some areas to carry out such cooperation project, and expand them based upon the outcomes.




The South shall provide such cooperative farms with farm resources, such as facilities for raising seedlings, fertilizer, pesticide, and farm tools, as well as assorted feed and farming technology starting from 2006.




To this end, the North shall ensure that experts and technicians in the South will pay a visit to specified areas at a necessary time.




2. The two parties shall cooperate aggressively in subsidizing the costs for construction of the modern facilities for production, processing, preservation, and disposal of seeds, from 2006.




3. The two parties shall press ahead with cooperation in agriculture and science technology areas by exchanging superior genetic resources and sharing breeding and cultivation technologies, developing bio-pesticide and production technology, and establishing the comprehensive management system for predicting crops cultivation and preventing disease and insect pests.




4. The two parties shall boost their cooperative projects in such areas as livestock farming, fruit and vegetable growing, sericulture, and special farm products.




5. The two parties shall agree on mutual cooperation for setting up tree nurseries and controlling disease and insect pests for ecological environment protection. To this end, the two parties shall establish each individual tree nursery in eastern and western districts of the North, respectively, which will be specified in detail later.




6. The two parties shall hold working-level meetings, if necessary, so as to execute the projects, as set forth in the above, on a step-by-step basis, and discuss practical matters.




7. The date and place for the 2nd conference of the Inter-Korean Agricultural Cooperation Committee shall be discussed and determined through the exchange of documentation.
