KFS develops evironmentally sound breast wall
Date: February 17, 2005

February 16, KFS announced that they have developed an environmenat-friendly breatwall made out of Pitch pine(P. Rigida). This could replace the concrete breat walls.

The newly developed breast wall is made out of Rigida pine trimmed to 90mm diameter. The trimmed wood is assembled into sharp(#) symbol. Therefore unlike the concrete breast wall, there is no need for molds nor extra period for drying.
Moreover Rigida pine has is very susceptible to preservative treatment that the treated pine could be used for 20 years.

Although the cost is 30% more expensive than the concreate ones, because of the easy installation process, the labor cost can be saved upto 160%.

KFS announced that the patent process is on-going, and in coming May, the breat wall will be constructed in a theme park located in Jeollanam-do after which the construction technology will be transferred to the public. KFS also mentioned that it is an effective way to utilize the timber produced from thinning.
