- Total production to reach 5.9 million liters, anticipating profit up to 14 billion won
The production of painted maple sap will begin later this month in the southern region.
Korea Forest Service (Minister: Mr.Chung Kwang-soo) is expecting that around 1,900 households are to produce 14 billion won worth of painted maple sap (7 million won per household). The Korea Forest Service will be conducting the site inspection to prevent any illegal sap extraction.
To promote safe and good practice in sap extraction, local training on extraction process and related guidelines, post management measures, container standards, and working attire will be available through local governments and National Forest Stations.
Extensive inspection will be undertaken in February to make sure that producers are conforming to production guidelines like the size, location, number of holes per tree, and check the quality of sap produced.
Gwangyang in Jeollanam-do, Geo-je in Gyeongsangnam-do, and other southern region start producing sap in late January; Namwon in Jeollabuk-do, Gimcheon in Gyeongsangbuk-do, Cheongyang in Chungcheongnam-do, Yeongdong in Chungcheongbuk-do, Gangwon-do start production in February; and Seongju in Gyeongsangbuk-do, Muju in Jeollabuk-do start production in March. The recommended price is 50,000 won for 18 linters.
The authorities noted to take appropriate measures to supervise production of painted maple sap to ensure safe and quality products to the consumers.
The Korea Forest Research Institute''s studies showed that the painted maple sap which is also known as the "water for bones" is nature''s gift rich in calcium, potassium, magnesium, manganese, and iron. This health drink is known to be very effective in preventing and curing osteoporosis, as well as good for stomach disorders, muscle pains, arthritis, and fatigue.
