to raise the chestnut and date(jujube) supplies up to 130 tons starting February
Korea Forest Service(Minister: Mr. Chung Kwang-soo), in preparation of the biggest traditional holiday, is to implement the "Action Plan for Balanced Supply and Demand of Forest Products" from February 1~12.
Chestnut and date(jujube)s are main items used for traditional rites during the Lunar New Year holiday. In order to provide price stability of these items, supplies of 130 tons will be increase to doubled the average supplies based on the "Action Plan for Balanced Supply and Demand of Forest Products." The National Forest Cooperatives Federation(NFCF) will sell products with promotional prices of 5% to 20% lower than the regular price through nationwide forest produce marts and marketing centers.
KFS, local governments, and the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service will work in collaboration to monitor appropriate labeling of origin and prevent any illegal distribution and marketing of forest products during the holidays.
KFS is to hold the annual event of "Share Warm Hearts with Fuelwood" which is a reach out program to distribute useful byproducts from forest tending activities to low-income households, less fortunate children and elderly. The Association of Chestnut Producers will promote sales of domestic products nationwide by visiting central government agencies, local governments, and companies under the slogan to promote use of domestically produced chestnut.
KFS authorities said that supply of chestnut and date(jujube) will be increased to ensure price stability and strict monitoring of origin labeling will be implemented to provide correct information to the consumers. KFS further asked to support promoting consumption of domestically produced products.
