The Korea Forest Service and the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held the Fifth Korea-Vietnam Forestry Cooperative Committee in Daejeon on October 28, 2008. Both sides agreed to further facilitate bilateral cooperation in the fields of forestry especially promote information sharing in A/R CDM projects.

This session of the cooperative committee focused on challenges and policies related to Korean forestry investors in Vietnam. Both sides exchanged opinions on the adoption and details of the memorandum of understanding. Both sides also made considerations on possible joint research projects and capacity building programs in forest fire management.

The Vietnamese side showed support for the Third phase of the AKECOP(Asean-Korea Environment Cooperation Project) and reassured involvement and cooperation from the Forest Science Institute of Vietnam.


With the growing interest of the Korean companies in overseas investment in bioenergy, forest plantation and CDM, forestry investment in Vietnam by Korean investors is expected to significatly increase.
