Forest Product Export Rises in 4 Years
- Exports in 2007 expected to reach 130million USD-

The Korea Forest Service outlooks the export of forest products to increase in 4 years with total exports amounting to 130 million USD in 2007. Korea exported non-wood products worth 72 million USD, plywood and wood boards worth 58 million USD.

Recent Forest Product Exports:
(2004)164M → (2005) 150M → (2006) 124M →(2007) 130(approx.)

The increase in the exports in pine mushrooms, shitake mushroom and fiber boards and other construction materials contributed to the rise in exports. Despite the unfavorable conditions in terms of exchange rates, the pine mushroom export increased a great deal.

The chestnut export market in Japan, US and China greatly reduced while the export market for the shitake mushroom and pine mushroom significantly increased, 77% and 67% increase respectively.

Variety of processed wood products such as door frames and picture frames have greatly increased as well.

The Korea Forest Service awarded service merits to the companies who have contributed to the exportation of Korean products. It further views to develop programs to encourage forest product exporters.

To address the potential trade limitation due to FTA adoptions, Korea Forest Service includes in its 5th National Forest Plan the activities to develop various processed goods for exportation and to resolve hindrances to forest product trade.

The Korea Forest Service plans to expand international markets and provide subsidy programs to fully support the export of Korean forest products.
