The Late Mr. Chey Jong-Hyun, former SK Chairman,


appointed to Forest Hall of Fame as dedicator.









Minister of the Korea Forest Service, Mr. Chung Kwang-Soo held a meeting of the screening committee on Forest hall of Fame on Mar. 3, and selected the late Mr. Chey Jong-Hyun as dedicator of Forest Hall of Fame, who devoted his time and energy to conserving forests and developing forest resources and who was at the ahead of forest investment.





The late Mr. Chey Jong-Hyun founded Seahae Development Cooperation in 1971 with the aim of developing sustainable forest resources and fostering forestry experts, and began plantation businesses. In 1974, he successfully managed to create a conifer plantation complex in 4 million ㎡ of the exclusive development area that was designated by the Korea Forest Service. Furthermore, he created a research forest in 1990 and donated 10 million ㎡ of this forest to Chungnam National University in hope of improving forestry and training more human resources.



He left his will in 1998 that the leadership of society should serve as role models for the society, expressing that burial grounds encroaching into forest areas are of great concern to our environment. In accordance with his testament, SK Group constructed cremation facilities in Eunhasoo Park, the city of Sejeong and 50 billion won was put into this construction. This cremation site has been donated to the society, which contributes to not only improving funeral culture and but also conserving forests.






The dedication ceremony is scheduled to take place at the National Arboretum in Pocheon on April 1. The family and friends of the deceased and concerned officials will grace the ceremony with their presence.






''Forest Hall of Fame'' is a outdoor exhibit hall to commemorate venerable dedicators to land rehabilitation and forestry development. At Forest Hall of Fame tributes have been made to five forestry dedicators so far; the former president, Mr. Park Chung-hee: Dr. Hyun Sin-kyu: Mr. Im Jong-guk, individual forester: Mr. Kim I-man nicknamed ''tree grandpa'' : Mr. Min Byung-kal, the former head of Chollipo Arboretum.
