- Strengthening REDD+ Cooperation for Achieving 2030 NDCs
On February 26, Minister LIM Sang-seop of the Korea Forest Service (KFS) met with GGGI Director-General KIM Sang-Hyup to discuss enhancing international cooperation in the forest sector in response to climate change.
Minister LIM underscored the importance of GGGI’s continued support and communication to advance KFS's REDD+ initiatives, which contribute to achieving the 2030 NDCs.
Director-General KIM emphasized the pivotal role of forests in tackling the climate crisis and activating the carbon market. He reaffirmed GGGI’s commitment to collaborating with KFS on green growth projects, especially in sustainable forestry.
Both leaders agreed on the critical need for international support to address deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, committing to close cooperation in the fight against climate change.
Minister LIM stated, "Our partnership with GGGI has expanded the scope of international forest cooperation, particularly in regions like Africa and Latin America. We are eager to continue this collaboration to assist developing countries in responding to climate change."
