SAFE is a joint initiative by UNEP and the Korea Forest Service that integrates community-led forest restoration with sustainable livelihood development. By promoting forest-based enterprises such as honey, coffee, and bamboo products, it creates tangible economic incentives for local communities to conserve forests. The program has engaged over 1,300 households and contributed to the restoration of degraded land, while also strengthening local capacity through training and business incubation. Through this approach, SAFE highlights the role of community-driven, livelihood-based solutions in advancing sustainable forest management and climate action.
