- KFS Invites Nine Forest Cooperation Countries to Share Korean Forest Policy Expertise
On the 26th, the Korea Forest Service (KFS), under the leadership of Minister LIM Sang-seop, announced that it hosted an invitational meeting to share Korea's best practices in national reforestation and discuss forestry cooperation with nine countries, including member countries of the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO).
During the meeting, representatives from nine Asian countries?Lao PDR, the Philippines, Viet Nam, Bhutan, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Timor-Leste, and Kazakhstan?shared their national forest restoration statuses and discussed international strategies for managing forest-related risks.
Additionally, at the KFS Forest Disaster Control Center, participants were introduced to Korea’s advanced forest disaster response system, which incorporates cutting-edge information and communication technologies to manage forest fires, landslides, and other forest disasters. They were provided with situation-specific response strategies that could be adapted to their countries' circumstances.
Foresters from the nine countries will undergo an eight-day training program, running until September 2. During this program, they will visit nurseries, the National Forest Fire Experiment Center, and specialized afforestation sites to receive education on key areas of forest restoration, including seed cultivation, nursery cultivation, reforestation, and erosion control.
Director General NAM Song Hee of the International Affairs Bureau stated, “Based on the successful forest restoration achievements over the past 50 years, we plan to cooperate with Asian countries to achieve carbon neutrality and address climate change.” He added, “By sharing Korea's reforestation case with the international community, we aim to enhance our national reputation and lead in advanced forest policies.”
