KFS Facilitates Bilateral Discussions with Vietnam on Forestry Collaboration
The Korea Forest Service (KFS), led by Minister NAM Sunghyun, hosted ‘Korea-Vietnam High-Level Bilateral Meeting on Forestry Cooperation’ at the Lotte Hotel Seoul. This meeting, a follow-up to the 2023 Korea-Vietnam Summit, focused on promoting Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation Plus (REDD+) and enhancing collaboration on the Official Development Assistance (ODA) between the two nations.
In the presence of their respective heads of state, the two countries renewed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on forestry cooperation in Hanoi in June 2023. This high-level meeting aims to review the Summit's outcomes and to discuss future direction.
Today’s meeting explored potential partnerships in promoting REDD+ initiatives for achieving Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and enhancing ODA for mangrove forest restoration and sustainable forest management to improve livelihood of local residents.
During the meeting, KFS and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) concluded a Record of Discussion (ROD) on implementing ODA project for mangrove forest restoration. Both parties reaffirmed their endeavors to strengthen forestry cooperation.
Minister NAM Sunghyun remarked, “Korea and Vietnam are strategic cooperative partners. We will continue to collaborate in addressing the climate crisis and reducing emissions, building on our longstanding forestry cooperation and mutual trust."
