Baekdu Daegan unit seals MOU with German medical resort operator

The National Baekdu-daegan Foreat Healing Project Unit, an arm of the Korean Forest Service, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Schwarzwald MedicalResort Obertal, a famed German medical resort operator, to share expertise on forest healing and therapy.

The MOU was signed in Schwarzwald, southwestern Germany, on Aug. 14 between Chun Bom-kwon, director general of the Forest Utilization Bureau of the KFS who concurrently serves as head of the National Baekdu-daegan Foreat Healing Project Unit, and Stefan H. von Hausen, chief of Schwarzwald MedicalResort Obertal.

Under the agreement, the German medical resort operator will “provide active support, including through consultation, for the ROK Forest Healing Project Unit so as to ensure the smooth operation of the National Baekdu-daegan Forest Healing Complex,” which is currently under construction.

The agreement also aims to “pool expertise and information of their respective healing programs and establish a continuous cooperative network.” The two sides will meet every two years alternately in Korea and Germany to hold seminars on forest healing.

MedicalResort Obertal, nestled in the Black Forest (called “Schwarzwald” in German), a wooded mountain range in southwestern Germany, has been in the business for 30 years, combining medical treatment with recreational activities tailored to the needs of customers.

“Through this MOU we’ll be able to share the operational expertise of the German medical resort company and further enhance our programs,” Chun said. “It will be a stepping stone for the National Baekdu-daegan Forest Healing Complex to gain a global edge as a forest therapy resort.”
