The Korea Forest Service conducted a practical joint training for fire control with 15,000 participants from governmental organizations, local governments and private fields in Gangneung on Nov. 3. Further, 12 helicopters from the fire brigade and other participants from the army, the Korea Forest Service and the fire prevention and control unit were engaged in the practical training.

The aim of this training is to establish a comprehensive fire-field command system and a mutual assistance system and to verify the effectiveness and capacity of the fire control practice. Further, the ground fire control unit is composed of an air control team and an aerial command team in the interests of an integrated command covering the air and ground and establishment of a comprehensive fire control system with high capacity of disaster management.

’The priority task is to establish a comprehensive fire control system to combat huge fires and simultaneously and frequently occurring fires’ said Mr. Suh Seung-jin, Chief of the Korea Forest Service. He stressed that to do that, comprehensive training should be conducted periodically at a regional level and fire control equipment and fire experts should be spared adequately. '' Training for fire control commanders should be conducted persistently as well’, he added.
