The Korea Forest Service will hold 「International symposium on Forest Sink and Carbon Credit 」on Nov. 26, 2008 in Seoul, recognizing the increasing interest in carbon markets.
The carbon market is introduced to assist developed countries in achieving their emission reduction targets and ultimately mitigating climate change. According to World Bank report, volume and value of carbon credits trading in the international markets are increasing dramatically, but the portion of forest carbon credits is not significant yet.
Considering these trends, this symposium will discuss new findings and the prospects in the carbon markets under Kyoto Protocol and the voluntary carbon market. Further, it will offer opportunity to identify limitations and roles of forest in the international carbon market, and to recommend forest functions in each nation''s carbon market.
