- Check out ’Forest Aerial Photo Information System’ and you will view your region in a high resolution aerial photo.
The Korea Forest Research Institute(KFRI) has started operating the Forest Aerial Photo Information System gratuitously for the public since this December, having developed the system as part of the information resources management project of the ministry of information and communication.
The Forest Aerial Photo Information System by the name of 「Digital Aero-Photo Web Service」provides a database of 679 aerial photos of forest resources taken nationwide for 3 years from 2004. March.
After registering for the web service, users of this service can search those photos by regions, provinces and geological coordinates, and browse detailed photo information such as photographing date, partition name, principal point, etc.
What’s more, users can enjoy those high resolution photos which used to be hard to access. In particular, this web service provides an opportunity for locals to view images of their villages and forests, which is expected to help locals have a better understanding of their region and to promote community development
The web service can be accessed at http://aerophoto.kfri.go.kr, http://www.knowledge.go.kr, and http://www/kict.re.kr
KFRI has retained 260,000 aerial photos taken four times in total since 1970. And it has established a scanning database of 38, 312 photos taken nationwide from 1996 to 2005 and made 697 aerial orthophotos on a scale of 1 to 25,000.
In addition, KFRI has planed to establish more databases of aerial photos taken from 1986 to 1992 and to improve database functions. It is expected that these time-series databases will be used for research development related to civil affairs , the greenhouse gas statistics verification system and other public benefits.
