- Assisting Timber Exporters with EU Market Entry
The Korea Forest Service (Minister LIM Sang-seop) announced that it hosted an explanatory seminar on the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) on August 11 at the World Trade Center Seoul of the Korea International Trade Association (KITA). The event was aimed at assisting domestic timber and timber product exporters prepare for the regulation’s implementation.
This seminar was attended by over 50 participants, timber and timber product related associations and exporting companies to the EU. Key topics shared during the seminar included the main provisions of the EUDR, recent developments, and the compliance requirements for companies ahead of the regulation’s enforcement on December 30, 2025
* The EU Deforestation Regulation aims to prevent deforestation causes greenhouse gas emissions and harms biodiversity.
Exporters are required to submit a due diligent statement proving that the production of seven commodities and products such as cattle, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, soy, rubber, and wood is free from deforestation and forest degradation in order to access the EU market.
KFS analysed and provided detailed information that exporters requirement to compliance due diligence of EUDR, recently updated guidance, and frequently asked questions and answers issued by the EU. In addition, the seminar also introduced a tailored supporting program offered by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) for exporting companies.
Dr. NAM Song-hee, Director General of the International Affairs Bureau at the KFS, stated, “We will continue to monitor the latest trends and share relevant information to help Korean exporters proactively respond and build sustainable competitiveness in this new trade environment. We will also support efforts to address challenges that arise during the export process.
