Transferring K-Forest Fire Suppression Technology to Central Asia
- Trainers Dispatched to Kazakhstan from August 16 to 31 to share Korea's Forest Fire Suppression Techniques -

The Korea Forest Service (led by Minister KIM In-ho) announced on August 20 that it is conducting a forest fire suppression training program in Kazakhstan through August 31 to develop local instructors.

The training is part of the Forest Fire Management in Asia (FFMA) initiative - a joint effort by Korea, France, and the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) - with five countries participating: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Mongolia, and Bhutan.

The KFS dispatched five instructors from the Korea Forest Aviation Headquarters and the Korea Forest Fire Management Service Association to share Korea’s expertise in ground forest fire suppression and provide hands-on training aimed at building joint response systems among member states.

The program featured Korea’s specialized curriculum, including fire detection using thermal imaging drones, scenario-based suppression strategy development, and on-site safety and initial response techniques.

In addition, KFS introduced its domestically developed forest fire retardant, paving the way for Korean technologies to be utilized in international forest disaster response and exported abroad.

NAM Song-hee, Director General of the International Affairs Bureau at the KFS, stated, “Amid rising global forest fire risks driven by climate change, it is deeply meaningful for us to share our fire suppression expertise member states.” He added, “Through the FFMA initiative, we hope to not only advance Korea’s forest fire policy while also strengthening our contribution to global forest disaster response.”
