Forsythia veluntina Nakai community has been recently found in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi province while it was alleged to inhabit in Hwanghae province. The recently found forsythia veluntina Nakai has short villi on the lower part of stems and on the back of leaves, which is a notable feature of it.
The discovery of the plant community is significantly important for geographical botany and taxonomic researches on the forsythia family.
The forsythia veluntina Nakai community consists of only 20~30 individuals and has genetic and ecological vulnerability. What''s worse, it is threatened with extinction. Therefore, for preservation, the habitat shouldn''t be revealed.
Korea Forest Service(KFS) has advised Korea National Arboretum(KNA) to set up a preservation center for protecting the habitat, improving the eco-environment and breeding by asexual and sexual reproduction. KFS has also urged KNA to continue researches on how to make special plants turn into ornamental resources through comparative analysis by plant-shape and DNA analysis.
