To a mountain or a beach for a summer retreat?

The summer holiday season is coming around, and the highest temperature is soaring up to 30 celsius. So beaches, favored summer retreats, are getting ready for opening in early July.


Holidaymakers who go hiking to mountains are gradually increasing by 10% every year so Chief Suh Seung-jin of Korea Forest Service(KFS) has launched the portal website called ’Forest Resort Helper Service’ for those who go to recreation forests and mountain villages for summer holidays. The portal site is www.san.go.kr which helps holidaymakers enjoy more in forests by providing information on approximately 90 recreation forests categorized by region, style (beach, historic site, spa, and valley), and theme (leisure sports, island, literature, ecology and so on), including touristic information. In addition, on the website is diverse information on the top 100 mountains selected by KFS, Baekdu Deagan tracks, accommodation and well-known restaurants. It also provides useful information and handy tips about mountain villages, forest education, and recreation forests reservation.


Based on Act on Forest Culture and recreation, forest commentators, mountaineering guides and forest rescue unit will serve from August.


Recreation-forest goers have dramatically increased so forest commentators and mountaineering guides are expected to play a role in not only introducing mountain sports and safe and various leisure activities, but also publicizing knowledge of environment and ecology systematically. Forest Rescue Unit will work in order to rescue survivors, to control fire and to prevent forest pest and disease.


It is expected that Forest Resort Helper Service’ provided by KFS will facilitate higher quality forest recreation culture.


Mr. Lee, Director of Forest Recreation& Urban Forests Division, said that today’s rich forests are resulted from the people’s efforts in planting and tending in the past. Therefore, the aims of Forest Resort Helper Service are to use forest resources valuably and sustainably and to share more public benefits with the people.
