Eastern National Forest Office announced on December 15th that they will provide 25 pine trees for the restoration work at a thousand old temple named Nacksansa in Yangyang, which had caught fire in April.

The 25 trees have been chosen among some species for cultural asset restoration, cared at National Forest Office Myeonokchi station in Yangyang. They are named Geumgang pine trees, which are approximately 50cm-83cm wide in diameter and whose inherited character is remarkably outstanding. Two of them are prepared for disaster restoration. The rest are for a crossbeam, the most crucial part in any structures, and for cultural asset restoration. They will have been supplied to the temple by the end of this year. Domestic pine trees are needed, in particular, for cultural asset restoration but it is quite hard to purchase them. As a result, imported timber is mostly used, which often causes the cultural architecture to crack.

Eastern National Forest Office has been managing timber producing forestry areas of 12 where Geumgang pine trees with excellent inherited character are growing wild along mountain ranges called "Baekdudeagan". "It is very significant that domestic pine trees will be used for a crossbeam and for restoration at Nacksansa" said officials from Eastern National Forest Office.
