KFS and SCBD signed MoU on Implementation of
the Forest Ecosystem Restoration Initiative (FERI)

At the recently concluded Bonn Challenge 2.0 ministerial meeting in Bonn, Germany, Deputy Minister of the Korea Forest Service (KFS), Yong Ha Kim, and Executive Secretary of the Secretariat to the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD), Braulio Ferreira de Souza Dias, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Implementation of the Forest Ecosystem Restoration Initiative (FERI). The signing ceremony was part of the official Bonn Challenge 2.0: Implementing Restoration Partnerships high level roundtable. Forestry leaders from 14 countries and 10 organizations participated in the discussion. The signing ceremony has attracted interests from all participants and also the media.

Launched in October 2014 during the CBD COP12, FERI aims to support the Parties with their own forest ecosystem restoration efforts. Signing of MoU is the first step towards successful implementation of the initiative. KFS and SCBD will present the Parties and interested organizations with more detailed action plan and the first region to hold FERI workshop at the upcoming UNFF11 side event.
