KFS Selects 20 Landmark Sites along the Baekdu-daegan
- 20 Landmark Sites Selected to Mark the 20th Anniversary of the Baekdu-daegan Protection Act -
The Korea Forest Service announced on the 16th that, to mark the 20th anniversary of the enforcement of the Baekdu-daegan Protection Act, it selected 20 landmark sites along the Baekdu-daegan recognized for their outstanding ecological, scenic, historical, and cultural values and published them in a booklet.
The selected 20 landmark sites of the Baekdu-daegan are Daegwallyeong Old Trail, Taebaeksan Cheonjedan, Cheonwangbong Peak of Jirisan, Chupungnyeong Pass, Birobong Peak of Sobaeksan, Jukryeong Pass, Daecheongbong Peak of Seoraksan, Hangyeryeong Pass, Misiryeong Pass, Cheonwangbong Peak of Songnisan, Jinburyeong Pass, Ihwaryeong Pass, Hambaeksan Summit, Jingogae Pass, the Woljeongsa Fir Forest Trail of Odaesan, Saejae Pass, Nogodan Peak, Hyangjeokbong Peak of Deogyusan, Haneuljae Pass, and Guryongnyeong Pass.
In 2024, the Korea Forest Service conducted a baseline survey for the selection of Baekdu-daegan landmark sites as part of a research project on identifying and utilizing the value of humanistic resources along the Baekdu-daegan. Based on public recognition, assessments of humanistic value, and survey results, the KFS selected the final list of 20 landmark sites.
In addition, the booklet includes photographs of the selected sites, along with information on their origins and visitor guidance, and is designed to help the public easily understand and enjoy the value of the Baekdu-daegan landmarks. The booklet is available on the Korea Forest Service website.

The Baekdu-daegan is a core ecological asset of the Korean Peninsula and a valuable historical and cultural heritage shaped by generations of life and culture. Since the enforcement of the Baekdu-daegan Protection Act in 2005, the Korea Forest Service has been protecting and managing the Baekdu-daegan for the past 20 years.
CHOI Young Tae, Director General of the Forest Protection Bureau of the Korea Forest Service, said, “I hope this publication will serve as an opportunity to widely promote the outstanding value of the Baekdu-daegan as we mark the 20th anniversary of the enforcement of the Baekdu-daegan Protection Act.” He added, “The Korea Forest Service will continue to step up its efforts to ensure that the Baekdu-daegan is firmly established as a valuable asset for future generations.”
