The Republic of Korea planted around 11 billion trees until 2008 in order to restore the denuded forests which were resulted due to indiscreet cutting and damage caused during and after the Japanese colonization and the Korean War. The KFS carries out righteous planting practices according to the geological and regional characteristic and diversify plantation activities for various purposes of forest management plans.
In addition, it is establishing the foundation for green growth by creating biomass forests. This biomass forest plantation is different from the existing plantation for long-term cutting (more than 40 years), and fast growing trees are planted in order to supply wood-based biomass materials.
