There is an increasing interest in well-being and health, and a growing demand for environmentally sound products from forests. Domestic forestry products are being challenged due to market-opening under the Free Trade Agreement. To enhance the market competitiveness of forestry products, it is essential to consolidate infrastructure for the forestry industry.
First of all, the KFS works for development of new and improved varieties so as to improve the market competitiveness of chestnuts and shiitake mushrooms, and promotes production of high-valued forestry products including pine mushrooms, medicinal plants, scenic trees, etc. At the same time, more efforts go into improvement of the marketing and distribution structure as well as standardization and branding of forestry products.
