In the Fourth National Forest Plan (1998-2007), the primary objective was to build a foundation for sustainable forest management. Based on the outcome and result of the Fourth Plan, the KFS has recently devised the Fifth National Forest Plan for 2008 ~2017. It aims to build Sustainable Green Welfare Nation through practices of sustainable forest management.
In detail, current tasks under the Fifth Plan are to promote practical application of the SFM criteria and indicators at the local level, to facilitate forest management certification, and to develop forest sustainability index in order to evaluate the quality and condition of SFM. The KFS is improving techniques, human resources and infrastructure to provide firm foundation for the sustainable development of forest resources.
