LIM Sang-seop, 35th Minister of the KFSv
Foresters, Timber Producers, Forest Welfare Experts, Forest Technicians, and Forest Owners,
I am LIM Sang-seop, the 35th Minister of the Korea Forest Service (KFS).

The KFS is committed to pursuing the following tasks to successfully implement the forest-related national vision under President Yoon Suk Yeol's leadership and to realize ‘economically valuable forests enjoyed by everyone, and ecologically healthy forests.’

Firstly, we will thoroughly protect the lives and property of the public from forest disasters. By enacting the “Forest Disaster Management Act,” we will comprehensively manage forest disasters and expand advanced response resources optimized for our mountainous environment to ensure the safety of the public.

Secondly, we will strengthen the role of forests in addressing the climate crisis. By utilizing forest management and REDD+, we will lessen the burden of emissions reduction on economic entities and contribute to achieving national goals. We will also enhance the effectiveness of forest protection by introducing the ‘Public Benefit of Forest Conservation Payment System.’

Thirdly, we will ensure that foresters and others can enjoy a prosperous life in the forests and that forests become assets for regional revitalization. By implementing the ‘Forest Land Pension Scheme’ and ‘Forest Land Bank Scheme,’ we will enhance the utilization of forest lands and improve the productivity and competitiveness of the forest industry, including timber production. We will support foresters in managing forests freely and creatively to generate high incomes. We will also rationalize regulations to promote local revitalization by utilizing excellent forest resources for mountain ecotourism.

Fourthly, we will nurture forest technicians and forest welfare experts as the mainstays of the tertiary industry in the forest sector. By expanding the scope of work to the private sector, mechanizing forestry, advancing forest technology, and locally industrializing recreation and healing resources, we will create more job opportunities in the forests.

Fifthly, we will foster cooperation using our advanced forest policies to contribute to international development. By expanding Green ODA that utilizes our reforestation experience, technology, and resources, we will help address global issues and enhance our national prestige.

With pride in serving the forests and the public, all the forestry officials and I will work vigorously and diligently to actualize a ‘forest for everyone.’

Please feel free to contact us at any time with suggestions or proposals regarding forest administration and policies. Thank you.
