Chuwolsan (Mt. 731m above sea level) is one of the five noted mountains of Jeonnam and located 14km to the north from Damyang-eup. Looked up from Damyang-eup, it looks like a lying monk. As various kinds of medicinal herbs have naturally grown from old times, it has been called a noted mountain. And it is famous as a place where rare and precious kinds of Chuwollan (orchid) grow wild. As the lower part of the mountain is made up of relatively smooth slopes and thickly wooded with aged pine trees, it is the best vacationing place for tourists with families in summer. It is not very high but it has a ridgeline which cannot be hiked easily, but mountaineers keep visiting all year round.
Also fatsia shoots growing near Buntong Village, Yong-myeon around Gyeongchip (a Ground Hog Day between February and March) fully stimulate the appetite in spring with fresh fragrance and special taste. Gorosoe which grows among natural fantastic rocks and stones is also admirable.
When ascending the top of Chuwolsan (Mt.) after passing through thick forests in the midst of the mountain, you can look up a spectacular scenery made by cliffs with fantastic rocks and a wonderful view harmonized with panoramic view of Damyangho (Lake). There is a tourist complex where Chuwolsan (Mt.) and Damyangho (Late) join together, sufficiently equipped with various kinds of facilities such as food court, parking lots, etc.
