Overview

Danyangcheongyegok (Valley) with Hwangjangsan (Mt.) is very popular. It has Sangseonam (Rock), Jungseonam (Rock) and Haseonam (Rock) that are three out of 8 views of Danyang, Doraksan (Mt.) with excellent rocky peaks and ridgelines, and besides, the starting points of ascending Yongdusan (Mt. 994m), Hwangjeongsan (Mt. 959m), Suribong (Peak, 1,019m) and Munsubong (Peak, 1,161m). Clean blue water and green pine trees on the precipice close to the valley form a wonderful and unforgettable sight and beautiful rocks remind of an Oriental painting. Danyangcheon (Stream) already takes pride in the quantity of water and considerable width in front of Murangol (Valley), the entrance of Hwangjangsan. As water flowing down from Hwangjangsan and Suribong (Peak) joins the water in Bagajigol flowing from Munsubong (Peak), the water increases in quantity. And it joins water from Beolcheonni and Yongdusan (Mt.) and reached under Doraksan (Mt.) and makes a beautiful scenery among rocks. It is Sangseonam (Rock). After Danyangcheon (Stream) was almost destroyed by heavy rain several years ago, there has been an ongoing construction of viaduct at Sangseaonam (Rock) to show new features.
Ascending a bit from Sangseonam (Rock), you can reach Beolcheonni and then enter the broad basin between Doraksan (Mt.) and Hwangjangsan (Mt). Two major routes are widely used to ascend Hwangjangsan. One is after ascending to Chagatjae (Ridge) from Dongno-myeon, Saengdal-ri which is the south of the mountain and Baekdu Daegan Mountain System, reaching the main peak via ridgeline and descending to Baechanggol. And the other in the north is that after climbing to Chagatjae (Hill) from Saengdal-ri, descending to Murangol via main peak. In case of a group, they can ascend from the south and then descend to the north valley or vice versa. If you drive, there is also the route to revolve the starting point to ascend.
After Baekdu Daegan Mountain System reaches Daemisan (Mt.), a huge mountain covered with soil, which has two long high ridgelines from east to west and from south to north, it turns to the north. While one ridgeline extended to the north forms Munsubong (Peak) and is connected with Medumakbong (Peak) and Haseolsan (Mt.) in succession, the other stretched long to the east lowers itself at Chagatjae (Hill) and then erects its high and splendid mane which becomes Hwangjangsan (Mt.). Daemisan (Mt.) is a typical mountain covered with soil. Its branches as well as the main ridgelines show deliberate and robust physical aspects However, Hwangjangsan (Mt.) has ridgelines which spread to all directions like ribs of a fan. Splendid and delicate physical aspects have extreme winding lines and a lot of rock walls spread like a folding screen at the foot of the mountain. Rocky peaks with white slabs and the skyline of rocky ridgelines are also splendid. The "Stone post of Hwangjangsan (Mt.)" says "Hwangjangsan (Mt.) is 1,077m above sea level, with Daemisan (Mt.) as the main mountain ...". It means that Daemisan (Mt.) has ridgelines spread to east and west or south and north and is huge and high, and it has the image of a big mountain. So Hwangjangsan (Mt.) seems to be included in Daemisan (Mt.). However it is clear that Hwangjangsan (Mt.) is better than Daemisan (Mt.) in terms of enjoyment of hiking, variety, and the figure of the mountain. The rocky ridgeline of Baekdu Daegan Mountain System, starting from Metdeungbawi (Rock) and passing through the top is very beautiful. The scene of the edge of the straight wall from Metdeungbawi and following blades of rocky ridgelines are included in the attractions in Hwangjangsan (Mt.). These rocky ridgelines go down to Murangol again and continues to ridgelines. When you look up the main peak on the way to descending along the ridgeline of Baekdu Daegan Mountain System from the main peak, it looks like a perfect rocky peak composed of precipices, but its top is plain and covered with soil. The top of Hwangjangsan (Mt.) seen from the ridgeline on the way to decending along Baekdu Daegan is very picturesque.
