This study area, namely GMS(Geumsan Forest) is located in the southern coastal area and belongs to warm temperate forest zone. Annual mean temperature reaches 10.8℃ and annual precipitation is about 1394mm. 1ha permanent plot was established in 2000 and forest survey is executed every 5 years.
According to the survey results, 105 plant species were found In this area and 27 of them were woody species.
Major tree species are composed of Quercus serrata, Chamaecyparis obtusa, Styrax japonica, Acer pseudo-sieboldianum, Carpinus tschonoskii, Stewertia pseudo-camellia.
Number of trees per hectare over 2cm in DBH was 3,373 and the basal area was 29.51㎡. There exist quite many planted Chamaecyparis obtusa stands around the site and the number of naturally regenerated Chamaecyparis obtusa saplings are increasing in the permanent plot over last 6 years.
Chamaecyparis obtusa belongs to shade tolerant species and the stem density is expected to increase as time passes.
