Forest insect pests and diseases research aims to protect forests from forest insect pests and diseases and create healthy and pleasant forest ecosystem. Under this goal, we examine occurrence pattern and physiological and ecological characteristics of major forest insect pests and diseases. We focus on analyzing occurrence mechanism of pine wilt disease, oak wilt disease and other major forest insect pests and diseases and establishing a comprehensive control system. Also, the Division works on identifying ecophysiological characteristics of exotic insect pests and diseases. We are developing and distributing eco-friendly control technology with least side effect on the ecosystem utilizing antagonistic microorganisms, natural enemies, low toxic pesticide, and physiological active substance. In order to enhance the quality of customer services, the Division operates a tree hospital at KFRI and provides consulting service on diagnosis and control of forest insect pests and diseases.
